Emails

If you have any questions about birds or would like to tell us about something you've done or see just send an email to: leighos.webmaster@gmail.com

Our first email come from Darren Woodward from St. Thomas' C.E. School in Leigh with our reply underneath:
Hi, I'm Darren a 9-year old boy who's inspired by bird watching.

You came to my school to show us a presentation about birds, and we got to make our own bird feeders(this was all this week). It turned out the birds were greedy with my bird feeder because I found it on the floor empty! I just want to know if Robins with red breasts are common at this time of year, because I found one perched on top of the TO LET sign in my street (you can see all the details on the sheet where people have seen birds on your website).

Can you please reply to this email, because I like it when people reply to my emails.

Hi Darren

Thanks for your e-mail and for coming to Lilford Park yesterday - it was really great to see you there with your brother.  You can buy more fatballs at places like the Poundshop and Wilkinson's in Leigh - the birds really do like them.  Make sure it is securely fastened to the tree or hanger because the wind can blow them down and then other animals might eat it if it's on the floor.

Although we think of Robins as 'winter' birds, many are actually present all year round, but you don't usually see them as much in the summer because they are busy feeding young.  Young Robins are much browner and speckled and don't have the red breast at first.  You can often see and hear Robins singing in the evenings and sometimes under street lamps late into the night (even at midnight!)

Thanks for your sighting report too and I'm going to put your e-mail on the website soon.

Hope to see to at our next event.
